Cookies with Santa

Santa came to storytime today!

We read books about snow; Six Snowy Sheep by Judith Ross Enderle, Sneezy the Snowman by Maureen Wright, and Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner.

The kids loved counting the sheep and making the "SHMOOSH!" sound.

They also loved making giant sneezing noises with Sneezy the Snowman

Santa gave out candy canes and books to all the children who attended!

And we made Christmas tree door hangers, they turned out really cute.

Of course, we also had cookies!

We had so much fun! Thanks a ton to Santa, the Idaho Commission for Libraries, and the employees of the Jerome Walmart for making our tree.

This or That December 11 2014

Today for our This or That class, we talked about Christmas in Greenland. The kids learned a lot of facts about their delicacies (whale blubber!) and their traditions, including building a Christmas tree out of driftwood and hanging a star from their windows.

The students worked hard on their Christmas stars

Here's the finished product!

We also ate apple crisp, but tragically it was consumed before photos could be taken. It was delicious!

On top of This or That today, we also read to children in the JEEP program. When we visit them, we bring books for them to take home. Today, their books included a music CD! They're always so excited to receive the books, and we love visiting them.

This or That- December 4th 2014

Recently, we've started a program for homeschooling families called "This or That" on Thursdays at 1:00. During these programs, we choose one subject to learn about and do projects, eat food, etc. This week, we learned about New Zealand's warm, beachy Christmas traditions. We made adorable kiwi ornaments!

We ate their traditional Christmas dessert, pavlova.

The kids were really excited about the pavlova! Everyone was able to eat a piece since it was made dairy and gluten-free by our very talented Alison.

Next week, we're going to learn about Christmas in Greenland! Did you know that no trees grow as far North as Greenland? What do they do for their Christmas trees? Come find out!

Middle School Lunches

The third Thursday of the month, our Program Specialist Alison goes to the middle school for lunch. While she's there, she chats with the kids about what programs we offer, how school's going, and brings something to show them like a robot that's recently been built in our Make It program. Alison looks forward to the lunch every month and it's a great way for us to reach out to the community. Ask your middle schooler if they saw her today!
